SOLOVAIR – BRITISH ROOTS
The history of this brand began in Great Britain over 140 years ago, when five cobblers from the village of Wollaston came together to form the "Northamptonshire Productive Society" (NPS). Success followed from the outset: within their first year, they secured a government contract to produce boots for the army. As their workforce grew rapidly, operations moved to a newly built factory that remains in use to this day.
A LEGACY OF CRAFTSMANSHIP
Throughout its history, the company has utilised various shoemaking techniques, including the renowned Goodyear Welted construction, ensuring that their footwear lasts for years. In the 1950s, Dr. Maertens and his colleague Dr. Herbert Funck developed a softer, air-cushioned sole designed to absorb shock and provide superior comfort. The company holding the rights to this technology sought out the finest local factories to bring it to life, and NPS proved to be the ideal partner. For 35 years, they produced footwear under licence, sold under the name "Dr. Martens by Solovair".
THE PATH TO AUTHENTICITY
After decades of manufacturing for other brands, SOLOVAIR established itself as an independent brand in 1994. The footwear not only retained its original manufacturing quality but was further enhanced with "Soft Suspension" soles for maximum comfort. Combined with their distinctive design, SOLOVAIR boots have since become an iconic part of popular culture.
