CHRISTYS’ – A SYMBOL OF BRITISH ELEGANCE
The brand’s story began over 250 years ago with the birth of Miller Christy, a legendary hatmaker, in Haddington, Scotland, in 1748. As a young man, he mastered the secrets of felt-making in Edinburgh. To apply his expertise, he partnered with Joseph Storrs in 1773 to establish the "Christys' Hats" factory. In 1850, Prince Albert first wore a CHRISTYS’ top hat, cementing this headwear as a staple of the British gentleman’s attire. As fashion gradually shifted towards more relaxed styles, the brand expanded its range. One of its most popular models, the "Trilby," is still crafted using the same traditional methods as in the past. CHRISTYS’ impeccable reputation has long attracted British royalty, aristocracy, and style icons alike.
A BENCHMARK OF CRAFTSMANSHIP
CHRISTYS’ products are a testament to exquisite craftsmanship and quality. Today, nearly all the brand’s felt hats available online are handcrafted in the United Kingdom. The creation of a single hat involves up to 24 stages - transforming a raw felt cone, sourced from Portugal, into a stylish piece of headwear. The brand utilises luxurious felt derived from sheep’s wool, rabbit, or beaver fur, ensuring a firm shape, excellent thermal insulation, and long-lasting durability.
A MARK OF QUALITY
The evolution of Christys' Hats highlights a profound respect for historical heritage while embracing contemporary trends. This dedication to the craft is represented by the red and gold crest - the hallmark of traditionally and meticulously crafted hats. As the historic manufacturer of British police helmets and a favourite among icons of cinema and real-life celebrities, the brand embodies the true essence of British master-craftsmanship. A CHRISTYS’ hat is more than just an accessory; it is an expression of authentic and refined style.
